Wood crafting for the outdoor setting is limited to things that do not break down so fast. I also am lazy with the maintenance of these things aside form annual cleaning and oiling now and then. Wood starts to rot immediately as soon as it hits the extreme humidity and harsh heat from the sun. I like to use big beams and chunky posts so they last longer. I don’t’ like covering and capping posts in my pergolas and wood structures because I like the feel and durability of solid wood. I also don’t like to treat then wood with premeating treatments because they are gross. We are limited to using only a good quality readily available cedar and IPE wood for our structures.
